Several factors influence this such as battery costs, electricity prices, export feed-in tariffs, and patterns of electricity usage. In 2025, residential battery systems generally have payback periods ranging from 6 to 10 years, with certain circumstances offering the possibility of even shorter durations, around 5 years. This is particularly true when government incentives are available and electricity market conditions are favourable, such as participating in a Virtual Power Plant (VPP) with Amber Electric.
